Scottish fly half Dan Parks has retired from international Rugby, days after his mistake handed England the Calcutta Cup.
Parks allowed a kick from his own try line to be charged down by opposition number Charlie Hodgson and was said to be distraught after the game.
Parks said in a statement released by the Scottish RFU that he was impressed with the talent emerging in his position so he was not worried about the impact it would have on the side.
Parks scored 266 points in 67 appearances and set a record for the amount of drop goals scored by a Scottish player.
Mike Blair, who as a scrum half worked closely with Parks, said the Scottish camp was shocked and disappointed at the loss of a great talent but accepted his decision.
Parks ex teammates will travel to Wales on Sunday to play their second RBS 6 Nations game. Meanwhile Italy host England at 4pm on Saturday and the French will play host to the Irish, who narrowly lost in the last round to Wales.
