This 6 Nations has the potential to be very interesting. Young teams, injuries, England in potential disarray. The French coming off the back of a World Cup Final.

Les Blues are favourites. They wore white despite being at home to Italy. The French showed flare and spirit and eventually won out a deserved 2 points. The highlight was a try under the posts by Clerc after his partner in the centres had kneed the ball forward twice in a row with remarkable skill. The result was 30 – 12 in the end and the French richly deserved the victory against the team favourites for the Wooden Spoon.

England v Scotland. The biggest clash of the weekend. The Calcutta Cup was at stake. England hadn’t won at Murrayfield since 2004 and really didn’t deserve to break that record on the evidence of the game. However, 13 – 6 to the English was the final result, 7 points coming from a mistake from Dan Parks when he was charged down by flyhalf Hodgson. Farrell and Parks Traded 2 penalties each and the match was a victory for a young england side.

Sunday saw the last game of the weekend, when Ireland hosted a reenergised Welsh side. Davies went over in the first half for the Welsh but it was Lee Halfpenny who was the hero, kicking the crucial 3 points at the death which killed the Irish. Ireland scored a try through Best and looked sharp at times, but the Welsh deserved the last gasp win, despite having a player sinbinned for a tip tackle that it was admitted by their coach Warren Gatland after the game, deserved a red card.

The 6 nations will be updated via our blog and our twitter feed.

Deadline day has passed and the dust has settled. The managers are staring at the bank balance wondering what made them make a move for 6 strikers in the last hour, the players are in shock that they’re moving to clubs they’ve never heard of for twice the price anyone thought they were worth. All in all, it lived up to its billing, as it always does.

There were far too many transfers to mention on deadline day itself, but there are a few to take note of.

Keith Andrews [Blackburn - West Brom] Free
The ex MK Dons captain moves for no money to the Brom. He will surely now expect more first team football.

Wayne Bridge [Man City - Sunderland] Loan
Sunderland get Bridge on loan but he’s surely only a temporary solution.

Kevin de Bruyne [Genk - Chelsea] £6.7m
A transfer in the pipeline all month, Chelsea grab some quality on the wings. de Bruyne is only 20 so will be around for years to come.

Djibril Cisse [Lazio - QPR] £4m
No stranger to English football, crazy-haired Cisse will be expected to bang them in for his new club.

Vedran Corluka [Tottenham - Bayer Leverkusen] Loan
Rumours of a possible permanent deal if the loan is successful.

Nikica Jelavic [Rangers - Everton] Undisclosed
Rumoured to be around £7million, Jelavic will attempt to recreate his form south of the border.

David Pizarro [Roma - Manchester City] Loan
City are not famed for loan signings, if they like him, he’ll be theirs.

Louis Saha [Everton - Tottenham] Free
Redknapp is famous for his bargains, this could be inspired. Low risk move for Spurs with no transfer fee.

Marvin Sordell [Watford - Bolton] Undisclosed
Watford lose the England under 21 starlet despite offering to double his wages. Rumoured to be around £3.5million.

Bobby Zamora [Fulham - QPR] Undisclosed
As well as Cisse QPR have snapped up Zamora. The goals are sure to be flooding in at Loftus road now.

All these transfers will surely affect the league, so keep following the fixtures etc with betinternet.com

The Emirates Stadium saw a cracker of a 4th round tie today. Arsenal were shocked to find themselves 1-0 down after half an hour when Richard Dunne smacked a header in at the back post from a well worked corner. This was nothing compared to the stunned vibe that rang around the stadium after Darren Bent slotted in the second on the stroke of half time at the second time of asking.

However, the cup lived up to its expectations. It was a game of two halves as Arsene Wenger’s boys flew out in the second half at a million miles an hour. The change was apparent to all watching. Arsenal had want, desire and urgency.

They were richly rewarded when the referee pointed to the spot after a clumsy lunge from Dunne, the man who set up this spectacle with his earlier header. Arsenal smelt blood and pushed on, ten minutes later Theo Walcott’s clustering pace was put to good affect with a weaving run up the right flank. His shot was cleared off the line, but straight into Walcott, who was following up. The England International knew very little about it as it struck his chest, but it was enough to put Arsenal level and will all the momentum.

Despite good work from Agbonlahor and Bent up front, Arsenal never looked like they would be stopped from here onwards. The match reached a climax when van Persie stepped up to slot his second penalty of the game after Bent tracked back and made a true forwards tackle just inside the area.

Arsenal saw the game off and will be relieved they are in the draw for the next round, the FA Cup now giving them the best chance of silverware.

The FA Cup has had an enthralling 4th round weekend so far.

Some of the more interesting matches will be highlighted here.

Brighton & Hove Albion will be partying through the night after a goal from Will Buckley saw them overcome Newcastle in their brand new AMEX stadium. Famous fan Des Lynan was in the stands to watch his side overcome the Magpies.

The big tie of the round saw Manchester United travel to Anfield to play their great rivals in a crucial game in the hunt for silverware. Andy Carroll led the line effectively and put his body around which led to a goal from Daniel Agger directly from a corer. Man United Keep David De Gea was to blame and that led to his poor overall performance. Park Ji Sung equalised with a smart finish before half time. The match fizzled out until 2 minutes from time, substitute Dirk Kuyt benefited from a Carroll flick on to finish smartly. Liverpool were ecstatic with the win.

Chelsea also overcame QPR at Loftus Road. A “soft” penalty was awarded to Daniel Sturridge and then despatched smartly. Angry claims followed that Sturridge had died and replays seemed to suggest the forward had indeed cheated.

betinternet.com will continue to track the cup throughout the weekend.

El Clasico. Barcelona v Real Madrid. One of the great match ups of the modern age. Supreme talent on both sides. 2 of the worlds top managers. 22 dedicated players. 1 questionable referee. 4 goals.

It had everything.

Barcelona were pounded from the outset, Pique’s mistake giving Higuain an early chance. Ronaldo battered on the door in the first half. Barcelona couldn’t get as much possession as they liked.

They say that a great team wins when it plays badly. Barcelona were hounded. Madrid were on top but spurned chances. Pedro popped up out of nowhere and suddenly Madrid were one down despite a solid first 40 minutes.

Barcelona could smell victory, already 2-1 up from the first leg, they knew they had a great advantage. Madrid were reeling from the surprise goal and WHAM. Dani Alves scored. Oh what a goal. The ball bobbled out towards him from a corner and he spanked it into the back of the net.

The second half saw Madrid’s come back. Who else but Ronaldo. He rounded Pinto with hilarious ease and slotted it to make it 2-1.

Barcelona concentrated. Well 10 of them did. Puyol was casual and slipped. Benzema was cheeky and finished with aplomb. With a blink of an eye. It was 2-2. This was game on.

The end of the game got scrappy. As it was destined to do. Yellow cards were handed out like sweets. The referee proved himself to be hilariously foolhardy with some decision. Sergio Ramos got a second yellow for, what replays showed to be, jumping in the air. The referee gave some other cards, fouls etc that made Mourinho want to pull his hair out, made the likes of Pepe apoplectic with rage and left the Barcelona fans smirking.

Overall it was great. The ref was poor. The game was scrappy. The goals weren’t all special. The match, however, was brilliant. If Spanish football could clean up its act, the Premiership would be in trouble.

After the New York Giants overcame the San Francisco 49ers in a hugely tense overtime win they will represent the NFL in the Super Bowl on the 5th February. The New England Patriots will step up to represent the AFC and as as an even numbered Super Bowl the AFC team will have the honour of being the “home team”.

The match, which is being played at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, has had most details confirmed already. The Super Bowl is much more than a standard game of football, is almost more famous for the entertainment and advertising that surrounds it. Madonna has been confirmed as headlining the half time show, with rumours that Nicki Manaj will join her.

The commercials, which interject the game at virtually every stoppage, are a huge part of the Superbowl and are often specifically made for the match and are worth millions of Dollars. An average of $3.7 million will be paid for every 30 seconds, a figure which breaks all previous records.

Overall, the two teams should play a tight game, Eli Manning has carried the Giants this far in a great post season performance but he will come up against Tom Brady, an elite quarterback who has been running the AFL for 12 years.

Return on the 5th of February for a more in-depth look at the two teams.

As the African Cup of Nations gets into its stride, betinternet.com takes a brief look at the tournament, hosted in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon jointly.

The tournament is lacking some of Africa’s more well known teams, such as Nigeria, Egypt and Cameroon, but the likes of the Ivory Coast mean that the Premiership is by no means underrepresented.

With Day 2 in progress, the only confirmed results were in group A. The opening game saw hosts Equatorial Guinea beat Libya by a goal with a 1-0 victory. This was then followed by an upset as Senegal lost to Zambia, the minnows were greeted with scenes of jubilation at the final whistle. The teams then get a 4 day break between each fixture.

Group B is host to one of the best known sides in the competition. Ivory Coast will expect to top the group but it won’t all be plain sailing as they must finish above Sudan, Burkina Faso and Angola. Although these sides may not be littering the English leagues with players, it does by no means mean that they are not a skilful much of players.

Two of the better known teams are in group C, Morocco and Tunisia. They will fight it out for the top spot but will have to watch behind them as both Gabon and minnows Niger will be hoping to do their countries proud and cause an upset.

The 24th is when the last group begins, with Ghana and Botswana kicking off proceedings. Ghana’s Michael Essien is a big name and will be a talisman in their midfield. Mali and Guinea are the other sides that will hope to get through to the Quarter finals.

The tournament is structured so that the top two teams qualify and go straight into the Quarter Finals. The final will be played on the 12th of February and betinternet.com will be sure to keep you updated as the tournament progresses.

Pakistan were rattled by late resilience by England, restricting them to a lead of just 96 with 3 wickets still in hand.

The match, which is being playing in Dubai, has been interesting as England adjust to differing conditions. Things could have been different however, if Swann and Broad had not picked up a wicket a piece in the last two overs of the day, including the dismissal of Pakistani captain Misbah-ul-Haq.

England had a disappointing first innings display, something any team would struggle to overturn. Only once, in fact, in the last 20 years, has the England team managed to win a test with a first innings score of less than 200. Wickets however, came from all over the place today from an England team that worked hard. And with the momentum the boys will go into tomorrow brimming with confidence.

Jonathan Trott was the most surprising entry in the wickets category, his short spell ended up with Younis being trapped LBW and the England teams delight that a part-time bowler had struck was evident.

Betinternet will continue to follow the England team as they tour so keep returning to find out how they’re doing.

Liverpool’s record signing Andy Carroll has been attracting interest from Aston Villa, who hoped to tempt the reds with Darren Bent. Reports suggest that the enquiry has been dismissed but watch this space.

Carlos Tevez, whose nightmare at Manchester City seems never ending, could finally be offered an option by oil backed French side, Paris Saint Germain.

Revel Morrison of Manchester United is an 18 year old, little known midfielder who Arsenal and Barcelona are said to be keeping tabs on.

Arsenal are also said to be chasing German winger Julian Draxter. The 18 year old would come at a high cost however.

Chelsea beat Sunderland 1-0 today after a thrilling match in which Frank Lampard won the match with a finish he knew little about. The real story was that Gary Cahill was seated in the stands after passing his medical for a £7 million move from Bolton.

Paul Scholes was another ageing midfielder who scored today, the 37 year old got on the score sheet in Manchester United’s victory against Bolton. His managers delight was evident as Scholes converted cooly at the back post.

At the other end of the pay scale, Norwich won a crucial away victory at West Brom. Steve Morrison popped up with a bullet header to seal victory. QPR, another promoted side, play tomorrow and are desperately attempting to bolster their squad with £3.5 million rated Chelsea defender Alex and Portsmouth midfielder Sulley Muntari.

Darren Gibson stepped up to make his debut in the Everton match away at Aston Villa. The midfielder started in a game which would have seen a hilarious own goal from Stephen Warnock had Shay Given not stayed sharp. Given made a string of top saves before Darren Bent scored a scrappy goal on 56 minutes before big Victor Anichebe scored a quarter of an hour later to level things. 1-1 was how things ended.

In a week in which Liverpool managed to tie up Steven Gerrard for the remainder of his career, they took on Stoke. So far, Liverpool have not decided to splash ten times the value on young English “talent”. Their current set of talent did not help them beat Stoke as they drew 0-0 at Anfield.

Betinternet.com will continue to track both the fixtures and the transfer gossip for the whole of January.
