Manchester City kicked off against Wolves today knowing something that could only dream of last week, if they won all their remaining games they would win the title. They did win, 2-0, thanks to goals from Aguero and Samir Nasri, but this would not have been much have a story without the game that preceded it.

Manchester United hosted Everton. The Toffees actually led 1-0 after a great Jelavic header back across goal. City fans began to dream before Rooney snuck in-between Jagielka and Phil Neville to head in from a Nani cross. United looked assured from their and quickly scored again through Welbeck, a controversial goal as Everton had a player injured and the referee didn’t stop the game as he had done when the situation was reversed earlier in the game.

Nani got played through by a rampant Welbeck minutes later and looked calm and cool as he dinked the ball into the back of the net.

However Everton weren’t dead and a great goal from Fellani on the volley made sure they, and the blue half of Manchester, had some hope. This looked to be quickly extinguished as Welbeck was again involved in the goal to clot in Wayne Rooney to make him the 4th highest goalscorer in United’s history.

Patrice Evra then squandered a great chance at the back post and this became important when Jelavic lashed in a half volley to set up a great last 7 minutes.

Everton began to dream, and Steven Pienaar answered their and City’s prayers as he scored in the 85th minute to make it 4-4!

Ferdinand tested Howard late on but it was to end a draw. What a draw, people were calling it the match of the season but it was not being touted as that by any of the Red Devils fans. If City beat them next monday, they will become firm favourites to win the title. There is still a lot left to do for both teams.

Since Force India mechanics were caught up in the violent protests in Bahrain, the debate has continued as to whether or not the grand prix should go ahead. The whole Force India side decided to miss a practice session so that they could return to their hotel before nightfall, a true showing of the struggles the teams face.

Political figures have got involved recently, with the Prime Minister insisting it was a matter for the F1 team. But the Prince of Bahrain, Prince Salman has come out and indicated that he feels the race could be a ‘force for good’ as opposed to a negative thing.

12 Sauber mechanics were also caught up in an incident where their minibus had to swerve onto the hard shoulder to avoid masked men and a burning bottle. Figures throughout the sport have been quiet, with Bernie Ecclestone determined the race should go ahead.

In terms of the actual race, Nico Rosberg is fighting with Lewis Hamilton for the fastest qualification time. Those two have been fighting it out and Rosberg could be in line for his second victory in a row, despite having to wait over 100 races for last weeks races.

It seems the race is set to go ahead and so betinternet.com will follow it throughout with updates across the weekend.

The Premier League is set for one of its closest run ins of recent years. Every refereeing decision will be hugely scrutinized and looked at in great detail. There is one man in the top two sides who will be looked at in greater detail than anyone else, Ashley Young.

The ex Watford and Aston Villa winger has ‘gone down easily’ for two crucial penalties recently and received widespread criticism from pundits and fans alike. In a year when Young will push for a place in the squad and perhaps starting 11 at Euro 2012 for England, it is unwise for him to become a figure most of the public regard to be bad for football.

It has emerged that his boss Sir Alex Ferguson has also had a word with him and indicated he should tone it down at bit although the United manager said he felt the criticism was stronger due the fact United are involved.

This comes at the same as Didier Drogba play acted hilariously against Barcelona before grabbing the winning goal, proving that you don’t need to cheat to be great.

Lets all hope, for the sake of football, that these players turn things around and stop disgracing the national game. Pundit’s criticism has been readily forthcoming and many are now pushing for harder sanctions against players proven to be divers.

Now the big one, the one we’ve all been waiting for. Chelsea, the only English team left in the competition, face the greatest club side on earth, Barcelona. The Catalans are the reigning champions and it will take a truly special performance from Chelsea if they are to leave themselves in with a shot of qualification, with a trip to the famous Nou Camp still to come.

Chelsea’s interim boss Roberto di Matteo has said in the media his team need to produce ‘two perfect’ displays in the games to get through and Frank Lampard has called for his side to keep their discipline. This is because in the last 3 meetings between the clubs Chelsea have had a man sent off.

Both clubs are on spectacular form, with the home side having won 9 and drawn 2 of their games under their new manager. However, Barcelona are unbeaten in 15 and have won 11 straight times in the league, a truly formidable record.

Former Arsenal captain, now of the Catalan giants, Cesc Fabregas caused controversy in the week claiming Chelsea play ‘long ball football’ but this was brushed off by the Chelsea management team who seemingly did not want to get involved with the mind games.
