David Beckham is an English icon, he scored “that free kick” against Greece, he captained his country and was a main contributor in winning us in the Olympics.

David Beckham will not be playing in England any time soon. His options have boiled down to Paris Saint-Germain or renewing his contract at LA Galaxy.

Beckham, whose contract at LA Galaxy was described as the more lucrative in football’s history, is understood to be leaning towards a renewal because his family is settled in America. Even though PSG would offer the chance of playing Champions League Football.

Beckham would get a 1 year extension if he stayed in the US and it now looks as if the West Cost club will snap up the world most recognisable footballer.

Celtic and Rangers met in a thrilling top of the table encounter today and it turned out to be a cracker.

Celtic had been 15 points adrift a few weeks ago and had only topped the table for 2 hours in August but have just notched up 8 straight victories before tonight.

Rangers led by a point before the game and started brightly before Celtic settled, a controversial effort from Wallace was sub sequentially shown to have crossed the line in the 6th minute but there was not much protest for the ‘gers.

Celtic then were the dominant force and eventually broke through via Ledley on 52 minutes. It was a crashing header and the Celtic fans were in a jubilant mood afterwards.

Rangers boss Ally McCoist would have been just the 3rd manager for Rangers to win his first game at Celtic Park but it was not too be as the game petered out at 1-0.

Celtic top the SPL going into New Year. More updates on Scottish football from betinternet.com will be happening after the end of 2011.

The Premier League is in in an important week and this run of fixtures could prove to be crucial when it comes to May.

There have been fixtures all week and Wednesday’s games were a great showing of how the league has been going so far.

Arsenal beat Aston Villa via a goal from Israeli Midfielder Yossi Benayoun. Hutton was dismissed for the hosts but it was in the 94th minute and made little impact on the game.

The Blue side of Liverpool saw themselves glean a handy 3 points when they dismissed Swansea. Leon Osman scored on the hour to grab the points for Everton.

Fulham hosted Manchester United in game that they hoped would see an upset. Manchester United saw this as a ridiculous concept and dispatched their lesser counterparts with a 5-0 whomping.

The other side in Manchester were in no position to be outdone and strolled to a 3-0 win with minimal effort. Sergio Aguero scored twice to make sure that Stoke continued to struggle on their travels.

Newcastle’s great start to the season has quickly started to slip after they lost a match, at home, to West Brom. WBA were not expected to get 1 point so to get the full 3 is a bonus.

QPR would have hoped to beat Sunderland and need to pick points up like this if they are to stay up but Martin O’Neil’s boys won a hard fought battle thanks to Wes Brown in the 89th minute. The new signing started to justify his value with a scrappy, yet important, goal.

Wigan and Liverpool played out a dull 0-0 draw and neither can claim to have deserved a win. Charlie Adam missed a penalty and Luis Suarez was booed continuously.

betinternet will keep you up to date on all the EPL updates.

As the 1st of January approaches, clubs are beginning to line up players they wish to add to their squads in the month long transfer window.

Carlos Tevez is, as far as anybody can tell, the most talked about person in the world during any opportunity City have to offload him. The latest chumps willing to offer the sulky striker a way out are AC Milan, after rivals Inter came so close last time. The Milan Reds are said to have insisted Tevez would promise to change his attitude if he is to join.

A striker that may enter as opposed to leave England is Lucas Poldolski. The highly rated German may be on his way to Tottenham as Spurs grapple with the funding to keep Adebayor on a long term basis.

One club that will attempt to buy their way out of trouble is Everton. Bill Kenright has told David Moyes there will be money for new players available in the window but it will only be believable when we see it. Everton are languishing in the lower region of the table and it could take new money to get them out of the scrape.

There are multiple players that will be bid for and fought over, Tevez just being one of the players that constantly attract attention. With just over a month to go betinternet.com will keep you updated in the run up.

The Premiership is going through a bother round of fixtures as players an managers alike edge towards the January transfer window. Will players do enough to keep there place and prove themselves during this weeks round of compelling fixtures?

Norwich v Arsenal, 12:45

Newly promoted Norwich host an Arsenal side which has undergone a rough season. Wengers boys have been sniffing around both ends of the table at differing times and now see themselves up to 7th, but surprisingly, only 2 places above high flying Norwich. Striker Robin Van Persie will be key, as always, the Arsenal’s success and they will look to him for both leadership and inspiration.

Everton v Wolverhampton, 15:00

The blue side of Liverpool will clash with the orange side of Birmingham in this enthralling clash of two teams that could struggle. Everton are currently well below where they expected to be in 17th and have not enjoyed their terrible start to the season. Wolves are up in 13th but have only picked up 4 points away, not a good sign before going on your travels.

Man City v Newcastle, 15:00

The stand out clash of the weekend sees top of the league City host a high flying Newcastle. The two teams are the only sides to remind unbeaten up to this stage and so this may be the end of that run for one. Newcastle have defied all expectations this season and crucially have shown no fear in facing bigger opposition. They will hope they can repeat this trick at the Etihad arena on Saturday.

Stoke v QPR, 15:00

12th hosts 11th in an interesting middle of the table clash. Stoke are infamously good at the Britannia but QPR have been just as good at home as they have been away taking half of their 12 points when they are not at their home stadium. The hard battling Stoke will be disappointed if they don’t take the 3 points though.

Sunderland v Fulham, 15:00

Steve Bruce’s heavily criticised Sunderland are languishing in 15th after spending big in the summer and will hope victory at the Stadium of Light will be a beginning to improving their season. Fulham have been slightly worse in the 11 games so far. They are one place behind their opponents and will be able to leapfrog them if they can gain three points by 5 o’clock. An interesting battle awaits.

West Brom v Bolton, 15:00

West Brom, who many tipped to struggle, are currently in a safe 14th place and looking strong. Bolton are in 18th and have had a poor season so far. However, Bolton may be able to turn this around after showing a slight increase in form recently. They have not won all season away from home and this may be the fixture they change that in if captain Kevin Davies can provide inspiration.

Wigan v Blackburn, 15:00

The two relegation candidates see themselves clash in what is already a crucial clash. Blackburn are 19th, 4 points from safety already and seem to have a big job ahead of them if they are to beat the drop. Wigan are even worse. 20th position sees them propping up the table and requiring a huge step up in form if they are to play in the league again next season.

Swansea v Man Utd, 17:30

The late kick off is a match between Welsh representatives Swansea and 2nd places Man United. Swansea are in 10th place are are currently well above the expected places around the relegation zone. They will be in for a test against United though who are flying high after recovering from their beating by rivals City.

Manchester City have reported this years losses, a whopping £195 million. That is a record loss in English football history. City have enjoyed a great start to the EPL season but it is clearly being done at a price.

In two years time UEFA’s fair play laws mean clubs must break even every 3 years. City must get their spending done over that time.

City have done well but they must win the league now for it to be worth it and save manager Mancini’s job. The previous biggest loss was by Chelsea in 2005 (£141 million) but they went to win the league.

The Premier League is a quarter of the way through and Manchester City are clear leaders having only dropped 2 points so far from a possible 30. Their 6-1 thrashing of title rivals United has put them well in the lead and looking like a good bet to take the title if they can continue their best form.

So far the biggest underachievers have been Arsenal who are languishing in 7th, although they have climbed dramatically from their terrible start.

Another impressive team have been Newcastle who remain unbeaten. The Geordies have made a solid start and occupy a top 4 spot, if they can continue this then owner Mike Ashley will be a very happy man.

Impressively, none of the promoted sides are in the bottom 3. Bolton, Blackburn and Wigan occupy those spots and Wigan especially look poor.

Despite it being early in the season, some of the fixtures have the pundits salivating.

Aston Villa v Wolverhampton
The top flight’s Birmingham derby sees Alex McLeish host Mick McCarthy’s men in what is sure to be a tense battle. Wolves have started fabulously, with back to back wins, something they only achieved once last season. Villa have picked up 4 point and looked good for them. This could halt the momentum of one team and both teams will be desperate for it not to be them.

Wigan v QPR
Wigan have grabbed 2 draws from 2, which leaves them fairly on track to avoid relegation, which as always is their aim. They will look for a win against new boys QPR however, although Neil Warnock’s side will be buoyed after last weeks victory. Tommy Smith’s goal secured them the 3 points and the Wigan back 4 will have to be careful the in form striker does not get on the scoresheet again.

Blackburn v Everton
Everton have played 1 and lost 1. Not a good start to the season. However, Blackburn trump them with played 2 lost 2. With Blackburn’s lack of talent meeting Everton’s lack of money any points are desperately fought over. Could be interesting as Everton will want as many points before they have to start cutting back financially, even if club manager/janitor/kit man/reserve right back David Moyes is insisting everything is ok.

Chelsea v Norwich
Chelsea surely will walk over Norwich if they are to keep the fans happy with Andre Villas Boas, even if they have picked up 4 point from 2 games. Chelsea’s expectations are notoriously high and getting up the top of the table early will be very important for the chairman’s happiness. Norwich will enjoy themselves and will defend in an attempt to cause an upset. Paul Lambert will set his team up in the right way and they will hope for an early goal.

Swansea v Sunderland
The first Welsh team in the Premier League will attempt to capitalise on an out of form Sunderland side who were unceremoniously dumped out of the League Cup this week. After a good 2nd half against Newcastle though, Sunderland will be aiming to kick start their season now.

Liverpool v Bolton
Liverpool have fielded a strong side in midweek in the Carling Cup against Exeter in an attempt to avoid the upset that struck fellow Northerners Sunderland. They will also be trying to continue the momentum that they have built up so far this season. They have a win and a draw but their performances have been worth more. Bolton lost to Manchester City last Sunday but ran them close in the 3-2, 5 goal thriller. They will attempt to be physical against their opponents and hassle the Reds into dropping points.

Sunday’s games look equally as appetising for football fanatics.

Newcastle v Fulham
Two clubs who will hope to end up in the top half of the table if they get a good run together meet at St James Park in a game that will be sure to entertain. With Joey Barton looking like he will no longer be a Newcastle player with his move to QPR imminent, Newcastle’s fan will be sure to react badly to owner Mike Ashley after Barton made himself a fan favourite last season. Fulham, whose fan’s love their owner Mohammed Al-Fayed an equal amount, have a middling 1 point from 2 games and will hope to improve this against the inconsistent Toon.

Tottenham v Man City
Surely one of the Pundits Pick for best match. Spurs, an attacking force in themselves, might be bottom of the table, but they have only played once due to their lovely fans rioting on the first weekend. As for City, they are aiming for the title and are going to try get there with the help of their talismanic playmaker David Silva. He will be crucial to the outcome of this match as will new £40M signing Sergio Aguero.

West Brom v Stoke
West Brom just want the 40 points so they will be aiming to pick up 3 of them against a Stoke side that wins away once in a Blue moon (against Manchester City?). Stoke will employ the long through and their strong midfield, but also will trying to utilise new signing Jonathan Woodgate to nullify the dangerous Peter Odemwingie.

Man Utd v Arsenal
The match that is nailed in to be first on Match of the Day. But will Gary Lineker and his pals be talking about Arsenal’s youths that can hold their own against a United side that looks truly sensational this season. Arsenal will attempt to find 11 players they haven’t sold and United will attempt to field a team that has a defender in over the age of 12. Overall though, its set to be the kind of match that you bother to record the highlights of.

Whichever match catches your eye, make sure you bet on it at betinternet.com.

The Premier League kicked off yesterday with some thrilling encounters.

Liverpool dominated a Sunderland side who held them to a 1-1 draw. Luis Suarez was through on goal before being brought down by Kieran Richardson who was inexplicably not sent off for his haul down. Suarez stepped up to take the spot kick but blazed it into row z. He made up for it with a 12th minute header from an Adam free kick. It ended 1-1 after Seb Larson scored a brilliant volley in the second half to cancel out Suarez’s effort.

Fulham and Aston Villa had a bore 0-0 draw in a fixture that failed to entertain. The other 0-0 draw was far more interesting encounter between Newcastle and Arsenal. It ended with Gervinho sitting on the bench after he slapped Joey Barton after they clashed after allegations Gervinho had dived.

The two other matches included newly promoted sides. QPR were holding Bolton till 40 minutes and had had a DJ Campbell goal ruled out for offside until Bolton took the game by the scruff of the neck and ended up running out 4-0 victors. Norwich faired rather better at Wigan and walked away with a well deserved point.

Martin Johnson faces more difficult decisions in the next 3 weeks as he must cull another 10 men from his current 40 squad to leave him with the final 30 that he will travel with to New Zealand in November.

Johnson has already disposed of Chuter, Worsley (a veteran of 3 World Cups), Waldrom, Strettle and Simpson-Daniel to leave himself with the current 40 but the last cull will be the most severe.

In both 2007 and 2003 England have had a 16-14 split in favour of the Forwards and this seems the norm for teams these days.

The crucial thing with this is that it leaves just 3 Locks, and so having a back row player that can fill in at Second Row affectively if called upon is crucial. Martin Corry was this man and his shoes are not easy to fill but talented flanker Tom Croft has pulled on a 4 or 5 jersey from time to time and could fit the mould perfectly.

Other players hotly tipped to miss out are Botha, Payne, Wilson, Fourie and Robshaw in the forwards. A struggle for the last remaining Scrum Half spot (a position where 3 men are taken due to its specialist nature) has emerged between Wigglesworth and Simpson.

An interesting call is the possible selection of bludgeoning Winger Manu Tuilagi. The uncapped Leicester man may make an international appearance against Wales on Saturday to ensure he is not a debutant if taken to the World Cup.

By the time England face the Irish on the 27th August, the cull will have occurred so keep your eye open as the selections will surely affect betting on the World Cup’s outcome.
